ICT & BYOD

Brinbeal Secondary College believes that the use of digital technologies at school allows the development of valuable skills and knowledge and prepares students to thrive in our globalised and inter-connected world. We will be operating Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. Learning at the College will be delivered with the use of notebook computers. All students will have access to IT support at school, Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud.

All students and parents will be required to sign the Acceptable Use Agreement prior to being given access to the school network. This will be provided to families in January or upon enrolment.

Any Windows based OR Apple laptop which meets the minimum specifications listed below will be acceptable to use at Brinbeal Secondary College. Students who have an existing device that meets the requirements below will not need to purchase a new device. Please note:

  • tablets and Chromebooks will not be suitable.

  • devices should have a separate keyboard and not solely an on-screen touch keypad.

  • support with Apple MacBook will be limited, the College is a Windows and Microsoft Teams school.

Minimum Specifications Windows Computers:

  • Intel or AMD (2 or 4 cores) processor

  • Battery life of 7 hours to ensure it lasts the school day

  • Screen size should be at least 10 inch but 12 inch or bigger may be more comfortable when working for long periods

  • 8GB RAM minimum to enable use of Adobe Creative Cloud

  • Hard drive capacity of 256MB or higher

  • Microsoft Windows 10 or later

  • Any model 2020 or later

  • Battery life of 7 hours to ensure it lasts the school day

It is strongly recommended that all devices have a protective case, cover or bag.


To assist families with their IT purchasing decisions, the College, has collaborated with two device providers to provide options that meet our minimum specifications:

Reboot IT: A provider of refurbished computers, allowing families to purchase a device at a reduced cost. Prices range from $300 to $500, including a one year warranty and free shipping. The link below will take you to a page listing the suitable computers.

JB Hi-Fi: A dedicated portal has been set-up for families to access. The portal provides options for families that meet or exceed the specifications listed above. JB Hi-Fi also offers extra onsite (at school) warranties and accidental repair options. All orders placed through this portal will be delivered to your home address or can be collected from your nominated JB Hi-Fi store.

How to purchase through JB Hi-Fi

  1. Go to https://byod.jbhifi.education/

  2. Enter the provided School BYOD Code: BRINSC2025

  3. Select a student program - Lenovo or MacBook

  4. Select a preferred delivery method - Home delivery or In-store Pickup

  5. Follow the prompts to choose the desired products, accessories, extended warranties, accidental damage protection and loss and theft insurance.

  6. Enter personal details to proceed

  7. Select a payment method and complete the order. Please note that there is no surcharge on credit card purchases.
